Do you remember playing with your first Rubik Cube?? I know I do, it was when I was a child and I received one for my birthday. I was obsessed with trying to crack the Rubiks code to get all the right colours on each side of the cube. I spent hours trying to crack it then hey presto I had worked it out. Unfortunately the way I discovered was not the way you were meant to do it. One night I realised that if I was careful I could peel the stickers off and put them all in the right places, ok yes I cheated but I was a kid. So imagine how excited me and the children were when we received a selection of Rubiks toys to review in the post.
You may have seen our review for the Wasgij Puzzle App that I did last week, if you did then you would see that I love the Wasgij puzzle range. I used to do these puzzles many years ago because they are hard, fun and get you to use your noodle. The idea of these puzzles are not to build your jigsaw on what you see but to build it on what happens next, there is a story behind each one.
Last week we received our latest puzzle as part of the Ravensburger Puzzle Club, with Christmas just around the corner there was only going to be one theme for this month. We were sent The Snowman and the Snowdog 100XXL piece puzzle to do and whilst Big Bird was off school poorly we decided to crack on with it.
Little Bird spotted the Planes movie was coming out at the cinema recently and being a big fan of Cars I knew he would love it. My little man is brilliant at puzzles and even though he has only just turned 5 years old he is doing puzzles that are 100 pieces plus.
When the Planes puzzle arrived it was a rainy day and he couldn’t wait to do it. He was pleased to see it had his favourite characters on the front Dusty, Chupacabra, Ripslinger, Bravo and Skipper. Out came the puzzle board and he continues to find all the straight edge pieces. The Planes puzzle has extra large pieces and is designed for children aged 6 years +.
Being part of the Ravensburger puzzle club has given us a fantastic opportunity to try out some pretty amazing puzzles, the children love doing them as much as I do so its a pleasure trying them out so we can review them for you. Last week I took delivery of our latest puzzle to try and was surprised to find it was actually a board game.
We have been working with the Ravensburger Puzzle club for quite some time now and every month we look forward to see what the next puzzle will be. Little Bird was not disappointed this month when the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles puzzle arrived at the end of last week.
This Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Puzzle is cut into 200 sturdy pieces and measures 36 x 49cm when complete and is designed for children aged 8 years old +. Little Bird is 4 years old now and completed this puzzle with a little bit of help from me in about 45 minutes. He is very good at puzzles and he was chuffed to bit when he completed his first 200 piece puzzle.
This puzzle is great for children because there are lots of bits with bright colours, making it easier for you to work the pictures out. This puzzle contains the four main characters Leonardo, Donatello, Michelangelo and Raphael then it has two of the baddies but I am not sure of their names. Little Bird made some names up for them which made me laugh.
This puzzle is made of strong, sturdy card and the pieces fit together really well and do not lift up and pop out like some puzzles we have done in the past. We think that Ravensburger make the best puzzle, you can not beat their quality.
Some of you may know by now that I am now part of the Ravensburger Puzzle Club. This means I am part of a team of 12 puzzlers that will be sent the latest puzzles from Ravensburger to review and discuss each month on the Ravensburger Puzzle Club Blog.
This month we received the Bob the Builder Giant Floor Puzzle, it is designed for children aged 3 years old + and comes in 24 large pieces. Little Bird loves doing jigsaws and this one was perfect for him.
Handmade cutting tools are used to ensure that no two pieces of the puzzle are the same. Unlike some large floor puzzles we have done in the past this one really does fit together very well. Each piece is very strong and will not break. This puzzle is made from special recycled board its grained paper to ensure a glare free picture.
Little Bird loves Bob the Builder and has enjoyed doing this puzzle over and over again, he loves that the pieces fit together so easily and that he can do it all on his own with his tiny hands. Perfect for little ones to build their confidence and self esteem because they can build this Puzzle alone. This would make a perfect Christmas or Birthday present.
