A few weeks ago I put a question to Little Bird, the question was this ….. what Lego sets do you think children would like to see in their Christmas stockings this year? I gave him my laptop and he started to investigate what he thought other children would put on their Christmas List this year.
Little Bird found four Lego sets that he thought children his age would love this Christmas, here is what he picked:
- Lego 75913 – F14 T & Scuderia Ferrari Truck
- Lego Ninjago 70750 – Ninja DB
- Lego Technics Fire Plane 42040
- Lego 75912 – Porsche 911 GT Finish Line
The lovely people at Lego sent Little Bird his Christmas Dream Lego List and his task was to get the lot built before Christmas Day. My boy has worked really hard and completed his mission in 5 days.
When the Lego sets arrived I asked Little Bird which set he liked the look of most and he picked the Lego Technics Fire plane 42040 and asked to save that one until last.
Little Bird decided to build the Ninjago 70750 – Ninja DB Lego set first, this one is designed for children aged 8-14 years old. Little Bird is 7 years old and built this all by himself with no help from me. He did not get stuck once and built it in about 3 hours, we were both really impressed with the build of this one.
This set comes with 6 minifigures and an assortment of weapons and accessories. You get Kai, Nya, Garmadon, Pythor, Kapau and Chop’rai. The Ninja DB X features an opening cockpit, a hidden shooter, foldable spoilers, weapons, Kai’s motorbike and a detachable control room that you can drive around with and off load when you need it. You also get Anacondrai gateway and a mini-robot.
The Ninjago 70750 – Ninja DB set is one of Little Birds favourite sets from the Ninjago range. He built this all on his own and thinks other children his age will love it, I asked him to describe this set in one word and he said “Epic.” It definitely gets Little Birds seal of approval. Little Bird found his new favourite Lego characters in this set, he loves the two snakes see above photo. You can buy the Ninjago 70750 – Ninja DB set for £69.99 from Amazon.
The second set that Little Bird decided to build was the Lego 75912 – Porsche 911 GT Finish Line. This set is from the Speed Champions Lego Range and is pretty smart.
With the Speed Champions Lego range you get the chance to race against your friends and claim a place on the podium. You can prep the 2 powerful, Porsche 911 GT racing cars with the tools in the mini-garage and attach the unique Porsche 911 wheel trims to make your car look super-sleek then you can drive to the start or finish line.
Activate the dropping start lights ….. red, amber, green and your off. You can capture all the action with the enclosed camerawoman as you race to be first past the checkered flag. Then climb up to the podium for the prize-giving ceremony. Accept your trophy and stand proudly as the national flags are raised (there are 8 national flag included in this set). The Lego 75912 – Porsche 911 GT Finish Line set comes with 4 minifigures – 2 x Porsche drivers, a camerawoman and a race marshal with an assortment of accessories. You can currently buy the Lego 75912 – Porsche 911 GT Finish Line set from Amazon for £39.99
Third on Little Birds building list was the Lego 75913 – F14 T & Scuderia Ferrari Truck, he was really excited to start this one. Its an incredible set and goes really well with the Porsche’s he built earlier in the week.
Now you can drive the Scuderia Ferrari team and F14 T race car to the circuit in the fully-equipped Scuderia Ferrari truck. Open up the roof of the cabin to place the truck driver at the steering wheel with a team crew member alongside. You can detach the trailer and turn the lever to release the standing feet. One of our favourite features is being able to fold out the roof and sides to access the awesome race car that can drive in and out of the truck.
There is a scooter on board and array of cool equipment including a complete tool set and computer screens. Lower the rear hatch and activate the launch function to push the F14 T down the ramp. This set comes with 6 minifigures you get a driver, a team truck driver and 4 team crew members.
Little Bird built this set in about three and a half hours and he has loved playing with it ever since. This set complements the Porsche’s set and brings the Lego racing world even closer together. There is lots of Lego garage extras that you would not expect in this set, we love it! You can currently purchase the Lego 75913 – F14 T & Scuderia Ferrari Truck on Amazon for £77.99
Little Bird was really excited about starting the last Lego set, his last challenge was to build the Lego Technic Fire Plane 42040. This set is designed for children aged 9-16 years old and is brilliant because there is two different designs you can build. Little Bird decided to build the second design because he liked that one best. Little Bird had not built a Lego Technics set on his own before so I set some time aside to sit with him and watch what he was doing, but he was determined to build it all on his own.
I have built a few Lego Techic sets and have always found them a challenge, I had to really concentrate on them so I warned Little Bird that he would need to be careful and concentrate hard whilst building it. After sitting with him for half an hour it was clear he knew what he was doing and he did not need me but I did keep a close eye on him. Little Bird built this set one evening after tea it took him about 4 hours in total. I was really impressed that he managed to complete this all by himself.
You can take to the skies for aerial firefighting adventures with this awesome 2-in-1 LEGO Technic Fire Plane. This impressive model is packed with authentic details and features, including 2-cylinder engine, joystick-controlled elevators and ailerons and large pontoons. Watch the 3-blade propeller and engine pistons spring to life as you maneuver the mighty aircraft into takeoff position, then power over the ocean’s surface and soar into the air.
When you reach the blaze, activate the cool water drop function to release the water cubes and extinguish the flames. This comes with a striking red and white colour scheme and a selection of cool stickers. When you’re done fighting wildfires, rebuild the Fire Plane into a high-speed Jet Plane.
Little Bird built the High Speed Jet I asked him to dismantle it and build the other one but he wanted to keep it as the jet. He loves this set and has played with it loads, the first night it was complete he took it to bed with him and left it on his bedside table so he could see it in the morning when he woke up.
I love that the technic sets are strong, sturdy and creative, they do not break easily and are great for children to play with. They are constantly getting better with more features and added extras that make these sets come to life. I asked Little Bird to describe this set in one word and he said …. “Awesome!” He is right it is awesome. He loved building it, I have a feeling Lego Technic is the step up to building as he is getting older. You can currently buy the Lego Technic Fire Plane 42040 from Amazon for £44.99
