Our Pyjama Party with House of Fraser

Written by mummybird. Posted in Review - Clothing, The Birds

A few weeks ago I had a lovely email drop into my inbox asking if the children would like to take part in a Pyjama Party with The House of Fraser. All the children had to do was pick a film of their choice and a pair of pyjamas each from the House of Fraser website and they could join in. The children could not wait to sit down and have a look at what was on offer. I knew straight away which pair of pyjamas Little Bird would pick and I was not wrong.

LEGO CHIMA DVD – The Lion the Crocodile and the power of CHI

Written by mummybird. Posted in Review, Review - DVD's, Review - Lego

My Little man is mad about Lego, he first discovered it when he was just about to turn 4 years old. We have gone through many of the different ranges starting with Lego City and then moving onto Lego Starwars, Ninjago and now he is bonkers for Lego Chima. We were recently sent a Brand New Lego Chima DVD to review and Little Bird couldn’t wait to put it on.

Last week we were sent Argo from Warner Brothers to review. When I had a read up of what the film was about I knew straight away this was one for Daddy Bird and decided to keep it so we could watch it together once the children were in bed. Argo is a Golden Globe Winner and I was surprised when I found out just how many awards it has won:

·         BAFTA Award for Best Film
·         BAFTA Award for Best Direction
·         BAFTA Award for Best Editing
·         Golden Globe Award for Best Motion Picture- Drama
·         Golden Globe Award for Best Director – Motion Picture
·         Academy Award for Best Motion Picture of the Year
·         Academy Award for Best Achievement in Editing
·         Academy Award for Best Writing, Screenplay Based on Material Previously Produced or Published

Argo is based on real events, this dramatic thriller chronicles the life-or-death covert operation to rescue six Americans, which unfolded behind the scenes of the Iran hostage crisis, focusing on the little-known role that the CIA and Hollywood played— information that was not declassified until many years after the event.

On November 4, 1979, as the Iranian revolution reaches its boiling point, militants storm the U.S. Embassy in Tehran, taking 52 Americans hostage. But, in the midst of the chaos, six Americans manage to slip away and find refuge in the home of Canadian Ambassador Ken Taylor. Knowing it is only a matter of time before the six are found out and likely killed, the Canadian and American governments ask the CIA to intervene. The CIA turns to their top “exfiltration” specialist, Tony Mendez, to come up with a plan to get the six Americans safely out of the country. A plan so incredible, it could only happen in the movies.

Argo has a fantastic cast list that includes my favourite actor Ben Affleck, who not only stars in it but is also a director of it. Then you have the fab actors Bryan Cranston, Alan Arkin, John Goodman and many more faces that you will recognise. I love the seventies feel of this film it’s like stepping back in time and I really enjoyed it.

Both me and Daddy Bird really liked this film, its definitely worth all the awards it has won and we would recommend you watch it if you get the chance.
You can currently buy Argo on DVD it comes in many different formats and ranges in price from £10-£15 depending on which copy you buy. We have the blu-ray version and think its fantastic.

Scooby Doo Mask of the Blue Falcon

Written by mummybird. Posted in Review, Review - DVD's

This week we received Scooby Doo – Mask of the Blue Falcon on DVD from Warner Brothers to review. After our trek to the post office to collect it the children were really excited to watch it because they are mad about Scooby, they couldn’t wait to watch Scooby as he foils a comic book baddie in this new original movie.

Scooby Doo – Mask of the Blue Falcon is a feature length adventure following the Mystery Incorporated team. This time the gang investigate at the Mega Mondo Pop Cartoon-a-Con where the villainous Mr. Hyde (voice of John DiMaggio) releases a horde of evil creatures. Shaggy and Scooby take inspiration from their favourite superheroes Blue Falcon and Dynomutt as they attempt to put a stop to Mr. Hyde’s wicked ways and save the convention.

The children really enjoyed this Scooby Doo Movie. Little Bird gets scared easily and he did watch most of it from behind my arm. I said to him that it wasn’t that scary but he kept saying “its scary!” I asked him a number of times if he wanted me to turn it off and he said “no, I’m watching it.” That made me laugh because he loved it even though he was a little bit scared.

Big Bird loved Mask of the Blue Falcon she is a bit older and understands its not scary. She would happily watch it on her own whilst I cook tea, but Little Bird needs an adult to sit next to him, or should I say an adult to hide behind. Bless him. Scooby Doo is a classic cartoon from when I was younger, I love watching it because it reminds me of when I was younger and the memories of sitting down watching it with my brothers come flooding back.

Scooby Doo – Mask of the Blue Falcon is out in the shops to buy now, you can currently buy this from Amazon for £7.49

Warner Brothers Christmas Bundle

Written by mummybird. Posted in Review, Review - DVD's

The week before Christmas we received a lovely bundle of Christmas goodies from Warner Brothers. It was really good timing because that week I had both of the children off of school poorly and all they wanted to do was watch tv and rest. I had planned on keeping the DVD’s until Christmas Eve but the children really needed something to perk them up and get them back on the road to recovery so we decided to watch The Polar Express.

The Polar Express

The Polar Express is a fantastic Christmas film and is perfect for getting you in the Christmas Spirit. Its about a little boy that goes on a magical journey to the North Pole by a magic train to meet Santa and his Elves. At the time when we watched this film we had an elf living with us and the children were really excited because this film contains a lot of elves.

The Poplar Express is an instant holiday classic filmed in performance-capture animation that stars Tom Hanks. For one doubting boy, an astonishing event occurs. Late on Christmas Eve night, he lies in bed hoping to hear the sound of reindeer bells from Santa’s sleigh. When to his surprise, a steam engine’s roar and whistle can be heard outside his window. The conductor invites him on board to take an extraordinary journey to the North Pole with many other pyjama-clad children. There, he receives an extraordinary gift only those who still believe in Santa can experience.

The children loved this movie, we watched it in 3d which is even better than the Blu-ray version. This film really grabs children and adults attention its has a fantastic story line and will be one film that we watch every Christmas.

New Years Eve

Then we watched New Years Eve. New Year’s Eve is rated 12 and celebrates love, hope, forgiveness, second chances and fresh starts, with intertwining stories told amidst the pulse and promise of New York City on the most dazzling night of the year.

New Years Eve contains a huge list of stars that you will recognise like Halle Berry, Sarah Jessica Parker, Michelle Pfeiffer, Katherine Heigl, Jessica Biel, Ashton Kutchen, Hector Elizondo, Robert de Niro, Jon Bon Jovi, Zac Effron, and many more.

This film is definitely one for the ladies, I watched it with Daddy Bird but he lost interest with it, although he seemed to notice what was going on when Sofia Vergara from Modern Family appeared on the screen. I loved seeing Jon Bon Jovi on the screen, I used to love him and his music when I was younger. I really enjoyed this film, I have lent it to friends so they can enjoy it too.

The Dark Night Rises

Daddy Bird is a big fan of the Batman films, he is a man that loves cars and motorbikes so its no surprise that he loves the vehicles in all the films especially the Batmobile. Action films are his thing and the Batman movies do not disappoint as they are full of action and stunts.

The Dark Night Rises has fantastic cast list that includes Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman, Anne Hathaway, Tom Hardy, Marion Cotillard, Morgan Freeman and Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

Despite his tarnished reputation after the events of The Dark Knight, in which he took the rap for Dent’s crimes, Batman feels compelled to intervene to assist the city and its police force which is struggling to cope with Bane’s plans to destroy the city.

8 years after the events of The Dark Knight find Gotham at a time of peace. This is due to Batman taking the fall for Harvey Dent’s murder. However, a new evil force named Bane has arrived in Gotham and aims to take over the city and expose the truth behind who Harvey Dent really was. Now that Wayne Manor has been completely rebuilt – Bruce Wayne has become almost reclusive, rarely leaving the estate. And with Bane taking over the city by force, it forces Batman to come out of retirement. But his allies are few and far apart. An elusive jewel thief by the name of Selina Kyle could be the key to stopping Bane.

This is the first Batman film I have watched and I really enjoyed it. Its action packed and special effects are unbeatable. The Dark Knight Rises is rated 12 I can’t wait until the children get older because I know they will love it. Daddy Bird thinks its definitely the best Batman film that he has seen, he loves it.

Warner Brothers sent us these fabulous DVD’s along with a Christmas stocking filled with chocolates, sweets and sparkly snowflakes everything you would need for Christmas. The children enjoyed the chocolates and sweets whilst they watched The Polar Express and me and Daddy Bird enjoyed the Candy sticks.

Disclaimer – We were sent the above bundle from Warner Brothers for the purpose of this review.

Magic Ballerina Dress Up and Dance with Darcey Bussell

Written by mummybird. Posted in Review, Review - Books, Review - DVD's, Review - Toys

“I want to be a Ballerina Mummy” is something that my daughter said to me when she was 3 years old, so we decided she should start Ballet lessons. Bless her she looked so cute in the outfit and she loved going once a week. When she started school she became so tired that we had to stop the classes as she would often fall asleep in the car on the way there. I decided she could start it when she was a bit older and used to doing full days at school.

In January this year Big Bird started asking me again if she could start her ballet up again. So I agreed and booked her into classes again. We had to go to a different group this time as the other one was full. She loved putting her ballet shoes back on and thank goodness her old ones still fitted her. She had a lovely time and really enjoyed going.

A few months ago the Ballet timetable changed and it did not fit in with our other after school clubs so unfortunately she had to give it up again. She still dances around the house and when I was offered to review this fantastic set I jumped at the chance because I knew she would love it.

Magic Ballerina Dress Up and Dance with Darcey Bussell is a beautiful gift set where your little princess can dress up as a Ballerina and dance along with this fantastic DVD, Big Bird was really pleased when she saw this set as it meant she could dance again in her own time and when she wanted to do it. All with the added bonus of being taught ballet by a professional instructor. The DVD is easy to follow and she really loves dancing along with proper instructions. Big Bird loves reading and has got a couple of the magic Ballerina books, but she had not got the one included in this set, so we started reading it tonight when she went to bed.

Magic Ballerina Dress Up and Dance set Includes:

  • Instuctional DVD which is split into Practice and Performance, both of which are led by Darcey Bussell and her Magic Ballerina characters.
  • Magic Ballerina Book
  • Leotard
  • Tutu

Magic Ballerina Dress Up and Dance with Darcey Bussell can be purchased for £19.99 from any good book/toy shop or online. Its designed for children aged 5-9years old. This would make a lovely present for any child that is mad about dancing especially Ballet. Another great product from Vivid
