Leading food brand Birds Eye has appointed one of the world’s most respected photographers to undertake a photographic study of how Britain eats today. Martin Parr, who has famously captured the personal tastes and habits of Britons for more than 20 years, has collaborated with Birds Eye over the last four months to produce a unique snapshot of what makes up the typical, modern mealtime in Britain. Featuring 30 brand new images, the exhibition gives an intimate view of mealtimes shared amongst friends and family, visiting among others, Kent, Cornwall, Norfolk, Yorkshire, Merseyside, London and Birmingham, unveiling a variety of unique meal occasions.
The moments captured include a group of young professionals sharing a midweek meal with a friend over Skype, a family eating a laid- back dinner in front of the TV and a household enjoying a traditional Indian curry. The exhibition reveals the continued power of mealtimes in bringing people together each and every day.
This week I am jumping on a train and heading to London for Britmums Live 2014 conference and I am really looking forward to it. I went last year for the first time and I had an amazing time and booked my ticket straight away for this year when I got home.
I owe a big thanks you to Learning Resources who have sponsored me and made it possible for me to be there this year, if it wasn’t for them I wouldn’t be there. I look forward to representing them this weekend amongst the blogging community. If you see me make sure you stop me to say hi.
Last weekend the children were with their father so me and Mr M took off to London for the weekend for his Birthday. We had three nights away in a lovely hotel near Hyde Park. I have always wanted to go to London around Christmas time to see the lights and the Winter Wonderland but its something I have never got around to doing.
Like any woman that’s going away I packed everything bar the kitchen sink and arrived at Mr Ms house with the biggest suitcase you could have for three nights away. I laughed when I walked through the front door and saw the tiny bag that Mr M was taking. I have never known a man to travel so light, so I expanded the lid of my case and managed to get all his stuff in my bag.
In July I took the children to London to a Christmas event for some of the top toys and games that are available this Christmas. The children had an amazing day out and enjoyed walking around and trying out all the new toys, between them both they started to create their very own Christmas lists early.
From a galaxy far, far away, the official LEGO® Star Wars™ Yoda Chronicles Tour will be landing – at Westfield London, Shepherd’s Bush this Saturday.
Build one of the ‘biggest’ box-office characters when LEGO® Star Wars™ comes to London. On Saturday 13th April 2013 visitors to Westfield London, Shepherd’s Bush can be part of an epic building event with LEGO to create a giant LEGO® Star Wars™ Yoda.
Between 10am and 8pm, outside the LEGO store near Debenhams, the force will be strong with nearly 30,000 green LEGO bricks on site. Professionals will be on hand to help guide participants to build a 6ft version of the famous Jedi Master.
In addition to building Yoda, there will be a TV screening area featuring Yoda’s Chronicles – a revelation of a series of Chronicles from the Jedi Archives. Each Holocron released will teach budding Jedi’s how to use the LEGO Force for good and how to stay away from the dark side! Yoda will be revealing stories from the Holocron vault throughout 2013 which will ultimately uncover the big secret he has to reveal…
And if you’ve ever wanted to wield a lightsaber – now’s your chance! Visitors to the Tour can have an exclusive free photo taken with the ultimate Jedi Master weapon while battling a LEGO General Grievous in the green screen area. All photos can then be given as a print or transformed into a key ring or magnet. In addition there is also the chance to meet a life size LEGO Darth Vader and Storm Trooper.

Yesterday I was very lucky to be invited to The Dream Toys 2011, in London. It was the Official toys and games Christmas preview. We had a fantastic day it was at the beautiful setting of St Marys Church, off York Street, Marylebone. When I heard it was in a church I had visions of toys being set up around the pews. But I never imagined it was going to be in such a beautiful building you would never have realised you were actually in a church. The building was absolutely stunning and the way the room was dressed made it feel extra special. The children were welcomed in to play, and try out all the toys that were on display. They had a lovely time and came away really excited and talking non stop about toys they would like to add to their Christmas list.
Big Bird and Little Bird really enjoyed their time at Dream Toys. Big Bird is a massive Moshi Monster fan as I may have mentioned once or twice before and when she saw Katsuma walk into the room, she was really excited. It turned out that I knew quite a lot of the people at this show and one lady came over and asked me if Big Bird could be photographed by the press for a national newspaper, in exchange for some Moshi Monster goods. Well Big Bird had answered “yes” before I had chance to talk. So off she went and had a some photos taken with the Moshi Monster Tree house.
Moshi Monster products have just gone crazy. Since Big Bird first got interested in Moshi Monsters the products have just grown. You can now purchase so many things related to Moshi Monster, its great that there is more and more on the market.
Little Bird loved trying out the remote controlled cars. My favourite moment was when there was a remote control car driving around the floor, Little Bird spotted it and bend down to pick it up, the car then moved away from him. So he lent out to grab it again and the car moved again. I looked around the room trying to work out who was driving the car but I could not see anyone who I thought was driving it. Then a lovely lady from the Playmobile stand stepped forward laughing saying ” sorry that was me, I was winding your son up” It turned out there was a built in camera in the car and she could see Little Bird trying to pick it up. She was demonstrating to the press how the car worked. Bless him he was so baffled by it.
Whilst Little Bird was chasing cars around the room. Big Bird spotted another favourite character from the television. It was Rastamouse and his crew. She stood ages talking to them and getting them to copy her dance moves. It was really lovely to see her enjoying these big characters because this is the first time she has ever got close to them. Before we couldn’t ever get her in the same room as one of these characters but yesterday was a big turn around for her and she came away really proud of herself.
The Rastamouse Crew gave Big Bird and Little Bird a Rastamouse and Scratchy talking teddy each. This made their day and we left with two happy children in tow. After the show we went for a walk around London, we did so much yesterday that when we returned home the children were exhausted, well to be honest we were all exhausted. I asked Big Bird what her favourite part of the day was and she replied with ” Meeting Katsuma” Bless her I am so glad she got to meet Katsuma, I didn’t think it would mean as much to her as it did. We had a fantastic time in London. I can’t wait to go back.
The whole day was about the top toys for Christmas, we saw lots there.
